Ducks win playoff opener
CHICAGO Adam Edinger's goal with 3:08 left in the third period snapped a tie and lifted the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena in the opener of a best-of-3 Western Conference qualifying playoff series.
Antti-Jussi Niemi added a goal and an assist for the Ducks, who posted a 2-3-0-1 record against the Wolves in the regular season, including 1-2-0-0 at Allstate Arena.
Timo Parssinen and Jarrett Smith each contributed a pair of assists.
NOTE: The Detroit Red Wings assigned right wing Jason Williams to Cincinnati. Williams, 21, had six goals and two assists in 23 games with Detroit. He had a team-high 23 goals and 27 assists in 52 games with Cincinnati this season.
