LEBANON A South Lebanon man who told police that he had preyed on boys for at least three decades is jailed in Warren County on charges that he molested a 14-year-old boy.
Now detectives are trying to identify other possible victims of William Russell Bill Vandel Jr., 51, who has also lived in Loveland and Milford.
Mr. Vandel was arrested Monday and charged with two felony counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor stemming from alleged consensual encounters with a 14-year-old South Lebanon boy in early March.
He readily admits he's been doing this since he was in his late teens, Sheriff's Detective Larry Sims said Wednesday. He admits there are a number of other victims out there, but he didn't want to disclose who they are, he said. Anyone with information can call Detective Sims or Detective Rusty Teague at (513) 695-1280.
Detective Sims said Mr. Vandel has no apparent sex-related convictions.
Mr. Vandel is accused of performing oral sex on the 14-year-old, who was among boys who frequented his apartment on Broadway Street after meeting him at a park this winter.
He started befriending them by talking to the boys. They were friendly conversations on how they skateboard, he said.
Mr. Vandel also offered the boys cigarettes and invited them over to his house, where they would watch videos, including adult films, Detective Sims said.
Authorities opened an investigation last week after one of the boys who accompanied the 14-year-old told his mother what was occurring, Detective Sims said.
Mr. Vandel is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, and is scheduled to appear in Warren County Court April 23 for a preliminary hearing.
