UNION An early morning fire at a rural Boone County campground claimed the life of a 27-year-old Northern Kentucky man.
Michael Wayne Burden of Ludlow was pronounced dead at the scene, said Boone County Deputy Coroner Lon Roberts.
A preliminary investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Department indicates the fire spread from a wood stove, ultimately engulfing an entire trailer.
Someone yelled fire and they all scattered. He (Mr. Burden) just didn't make it out, Mr. Roberts said.
An autopsy will be conducted as a matter of routine, said Maj. Jack Banks, a department spokesman, but it appears Mr. Burden's death was the result of the accidental fire. Autopsy results will be available Monday, said Mr. Roberts.
The fire was reported at 6:20 a.m. Saturday in the 5100 block of Beaver Road in an unincorporated part of Boone County near Union. The trailer was located at the Camp Love campgrounds used as a summer getaway by area residents.
Mr. Burden was spending the weekend at the camp with four other people, including his parents.
The trailer had been converted into a permanent camp site and had a porch built onto its side. The camp is owned by Mr. Burden's mother and stepfather, Robin and Martin Garcia of Dayton, Ky. Funeral arrangements are pending.
