LEBANON A former janitor at Mason Middle School was indicted Monday on charges that he stole 40 tablets of the stimulant Ritalin from the nurse's office.
David W. Whittymore, 38, of Williamsburg in Clermont County, faces five felony counts of theft of drugs involving four student prescriptions for the drug that is used to treat attention-deficit disorder.
The school nurse contacted Mason police Feb. 6 after an audit determined that some of the drugs were missing.
Detective Scott Doughman said officers then set up a surveillance camera, which police say captured images of Mr. Whittymore taking the Ritalin on Feb. 12.
The drugs are locked up. He was able to get a key and get in, Detective Doughman said.
Warren County Prosecutor Tim Oliver said the thefts had occurred since December.
In other indictments:
John L. Mastin, 29, a convicted murderer and burglar from Franklin County, was charged with possession of drugs after guards at Lebanon Correctional Institution said they found nearly an ounce of marijuana and another four grams of cocaine hidden in his clothing on March 8.
James M. Hinkle, 43, a handyman who was convicted in 2000 of intimidating a witness in a case against his brother, was charged with receiving stolen property and having a weapon under disability involving the March 16 theft of a 9mm handgun from a room at Countryside Inn in South Lebanon.
