Topic: legal system, family
HAMILTON Choices Affecting Families and Children in the Legal System will be explored during a two-day seminar next week.
Topics include the impact of coerced confessions on the justice system and avoiding the trauma of court testimony for child victims.
Speakers include Harvey C. Shapiro, a private investigator and former Los Angeles Police Department detective; Fairfield Municipal Judge Joyce A. Campbell; and Randy Rand, a licensed psychologist and board-certified forensic examiner from California.
The sessions are sponsored by the Human Services Council of Butler County and the county's Alcohol and Chemical Abuse Council, in cooperation with the county prosecutor's office.
Continuing-education credits are offered for attorneys, psychologists and counselors/social workers.
The workshop runs Monday and Tuesday at the Hamilton Elks Club, 4444 Hamilton-Middletown Road.
Cost is $250 for the two-day seminar, which includes workshops, lunch both days, the kick-off dinner and golfing. Reduced rates are available for partial attendance.
