Warren County receives grant for its children

By Cindi Andrews, candrews@enquirer.com
The Cincinnati Enquirer

LEBANON — Warren County is receiving a $100,000 federal grant to measure the effectiveness of its services for children, Juvenile Court administrator Laura Sutherland announced Tuesday in a meeting with county commissioners.

That will be followed by another $100,000 next year to follow through on the program's findings, Ms. Sutherland said.

The initiative, called Partnerships for Success, is similar to one Butler County and four other Ohio counties began in 1998.

In Warren County, the initiative will look at services for children from birth onward across many agencies — from Children's Services to Juvenile Court to the schools.

        Key goals:

        • Measure existing programs and treatment against the latest research.

        • Pinpoint barriers to and gaps in services.

        • Focus on prevention.

Commissioners suggested Tuesday they might be willing to donate space for the initiative in a vacant county building. One full-time or two part-time people will be hired to coordinate Partnerships for Success, Ms. Sutherland said.

Warren County's adoption of the initiative dovetails with Vision Warren County, a year-old effort by the United Way and other public and private groups to better coordinate services for families and children. The result is a Web site of family-related resources that will debut in less than six weeks.
