LOUISVILLE The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville was sued Wednesday by five more men who claimed the church concealed sexual abuse they suffered from a priest when they were children.
All accused Louis E. Miller of sexually abusing them in the 1960s. Three were altar boys at the time. Another claimed Father Miller masturbated in the confessional as the plaintiff described being attacked by a stranger.
When I went to Mass with my parents I would have the urge to scream out, but I wouldn't, Martin Robertson, one of the plaintiffs, said in an interview. I would want to scream, "It's a fraud.' But I never did that.
The filings bring to 17 the number of lawsuits filed recently by people claiming they were abused as children by priests or a teacher employed by the archdiocese. The suits were filed in Jefferson Circuit Court. Father Miller is accused of sexual abuse in 13 suits.
The new suits claim the archdiocese knew of Father Miller's alleged pattern of sexual abuse but concealed it from law-enforcement authorities.
We have not seen these lawsuits and by policy we don't normally comment on lawsuits in any case, said Cecelia Price, a spokeswoman for the archdiocese.
Besides Mr. Robertson, the new plaintiffs are William G. Brown, William Handelman, Ronald T. Landry and James B. Corcoran Jr.
