Street closings given for Sunday's Flying Pig




The Cincinnati Enquirer

        The 2002 Flying Pig Marathon begins at 6:25 a.m. Sunday and ends at approximately 1 p.m.

        The staging areas and starting points are Seventh Street between Plum and Race streets and Elm Street between Sixth and Eighth streets, downtown. Those areas will be closed 4-8 a.m.

        Vehicular traffic will be permitted in the opposite direction of the race, except where noted.

        The following streets are on the route and will be affected 6 a.m.-1 p.m.:

        • Seventh from Plum to Broadway streets.

        • Broadway from Seventh to Third streets.

        • Third from Broadway to Linn streets.

        • Linn from Third to Liberty streets.

        • Liberty Street from Linn Street to Central Parkway.

        • Central Parkway from Liberty Street to Reading Road.

        • Reading Road from Central Parkway to Elsinore Avenue.

        • Elsinore Avenue from Reading Road to Gilbert Avenue (closed).

        • Gilbert Avenue from Elsinore Avenue to Eden Park Drive.

        • Eden Park Drive from Gilbert Avenue to Victory Parkway.

        • Victory Parkway from Eden Park Drive to McMillan Avenue.

        • McMillan Avenue from Victory Parkway to Woodburn Avenue.

        • Woodburn Avenue from McMillan Avenue to Madison Road.

        • Madison Road from Woodburn to Erie avenues.

        • Erie Avenue from Madison Road to Delta Avenue.

        • Delta from Erie to Eastern avenues.

        • Eastern from Delta to Eggleston avenues.

        • Eggleston Avenue (closed).

        • Central Parkway from Eggleston to Marshall avenues.

        • Western Hills Viaduct, upper deck eastbound (closed).

        • Marshall Avenue from Central Parkway to Massachusetts Avenue.

        • Massachusetts from Marshall to Heywood avenues (closed).

        • Heywood from Massachusetts to Colerain avenues (closed).

        • Colerain from Marshall to Alfred avenues (closed).

        • Alfred from Colerain to Spring Grove avenues (closed).

        • Spring Grove from Alfred to Dalton avenues.

        • Dalton Avenue from Spring Grove Avenue to Gest Street.

        • Gest Street from Dalton Avenue to Third Street.

        • Third Street from Gest Street to the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge (closed). The bridge will be completely closed 7 a.m.-noon.

        • Fourth Street (in Covington) to the Taylor Southgate Bridge. The eastbound lanes of the Veterans Memorial Bridge between Covington and Newport will be closed 7 a.m.-noon.

        • Pete Rose Way from the Taylor Southgate Bridge to Old Broadway Street (closed). The southbound lanes of the bridge will be closed 7 a.m.-noon.

        • Old Broadway Street from Pete Rose Way to Mehring Way (closed).

        • Mehring Way from Broadway Street to the Public Landing entrance (closed).

        Crossing the course will be permitted with the assistance of a police officer or race volunteer. Metro will maintain bus service.
