Group to rally in support of Sabis International School

Parents and teachers are worried about the fate of a Mount Auburn charter school, so they're planning a rally Tuesday to save it.
Hundreds of parents, teachers and community members are expected to attend to inform the public of the precarious future of Sabis International School of Cincinnati, said Avondale resident and parent Bernita Howard.
We need to save our school, she said. Parents need to be given a choice.
The four-member board of Sabis, a two-year-old charter school of nearly 650 students, sued in March to have it closed.
Ms. Howard said her two children are very unsettled about their school's future.
(They) come home every day with questions, she said.
In the March lawsuit filed in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, board members said they are concerned they'll be held responsible for the company's actions. They allege the company running the school, Cincinnati Education Management, LLC, has too much financial control over the school without proper checks and bal ances and is improperly profiting from the nonprofit school.
They say they have not been able to obtain critical information about school finances from the management company; the former board president was a relative of Sabis management, causing a conflict of interest; and said they are concerned about a $600,000 line of credit taken out by the man agement company for which they could be held responsible.
Last week, board members said they don't want to dissolve the school. Instead, they want to hire another management company to run it one that will be responsive to public interest, said Charles Wallner, a representative for the board.
Another lawsuit filed last week in U.S. District Court in Columbus says the state, which funds the school, failed to properly account for school revenues and failed to properly audit and assist the school as required by state law.
The rally will be at 5 p.m. in the cafeteria and gym building of the school at 244 Southern Ave.
