A 36-year-old Loveland woman was critically injured Sunday after she apparently purposely dived out of a moving van in Mount Airy during an argument with her husband, Cincinnati police said.
Juanita Graves was rushed to University Hospital with head injuries after the 12:40 p.m. incident in the 2300 block of North Bend Road, authorities said.
She was airborne, like she was plunging into a swimming pool, said a witness, Terrell Steele of North College Hill. It was like something out of a movie.
Policequestioned the husband, Darrell Graves, 38, at the scene and impounded the van for evidence.
The couple's three young children were in the back of the van, screaming and crying, said the family's neighbor, Donnetta Johnson, who went to the scene to comfort them.
A 12-year-old daughter told Ms. Johnson Sunday was her birthday.
Ms. Graves jumped out of the middle passenger side of the couple's maroon 1990 Chevy Astro and hit her head on the pavement, police said.
The van was traveling 35 or 40 miles an hour.
A relative said the family had just come from church. The Graves live in the 700 block of Wards Corner Road in Loveland.
When someone makes a conscious decision to go from a moving car something's obviously wrong, Traffic Sgt. Bill Coombs said. It's horrible for the children to see their mother injured like this.
In addition to the 12-year-old daughter, the couple has an 8-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son.
