Vannatter wins sheriff nomination

VEVAY, Ind. A retired Los Angeles Police Department detective who was a lead investigator in the O.J. Simpson murder case won the Republican nomination Tuesday for Switzerland County sheriff.
Philip Vannatter received 313 votes while John Haskell got 226. He will face Nathan Hughes, who won the Democratic nomination with 1,264 votes.
A 27-year veteran of the LAPD, Mr. Vannatter and his partner were the lead detectives in the Simpson murder case.
Mr. Vannatter and his wife, Rita, moved to a 73-acre farm in Switzerland County in 1996 after he retired from the LAPD.
