Mom who attacked kids had threatened to kill them, herself
CLEVELAND A Cuyahoga County commissioner accused mental-health counselors and child-welfare workers of mishandling a mother's threat to kill her children less than a month before she cut their throats.
Prosecutors on Thursday charged Miriam Robinson, 40, of Cleveland, with attempted murder of the children, who were released Friday from Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. They were placed in their grandmother's care.
Commissioner Tim McCormacksaid Friday that the county's Department of Children and Family Services and a mental-health counselor mishandled the case.
Three weeks ago, she was talking about killing her children and killing herself, Mr. McCormack said. Apparently two public systems didn't take those identifying traits very seriously.
Social workers took her children when she was discharged April 19 but returned them after consulting with Ms. Robinson's relatives and her treatment team.
