Supreme Court candidates aim for 'clean' race
COLUMBUS, Ohio Two candidates opposing each other in November for an open Ohio Supreme Court seat have promised to conduct clean campaigns, but their pledges aren't the same.
Republican Lt. Gov. Maureen O'Connor's pledge asks all candidates to refrain from criticizing any other candidate. She has sent it to her opponent, Hamilton County Municipal Judge Tim Black, for his signature.
If he agrees to the pledge, Lt. Gov. O'Connor said she will limit her campaign communications to positive references about her own record and qualifications. She also will agree to ensure that her staff members and volunteers do the same.
Ohioans deserve the best we can give, Lt. Gov. O'Connor said. People are tired of negative campaigns and candidates bickering with each other.
