A guide to help you make your day

Compiled by Jim Knippenberg jknippenberg@enquirer.com

Going out         "Mamma Mia': Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Cincinnati begins two weeks of the smash musical inspired by ABBA songs. 8 p.m. today, Procter & Gamble Hall, Aronoff Center. $45-$65. 241-7469.

Jazz: Fusion artist Willie Waldman brings his new band (including moe. guitarist Chuck Garvey) to the BarrelHouse Brewing Co. with opening act Toast, 9 p.m. today, 22 E. 12th St., Over-the-Rhine. $10. 421-2337.

Opera Raps: Cincinnati Opera Artistic Director Nicholas Muni discusses the upcoming summer season (Romeo and Juliet, The Marriage of Figaro, Elektra and Dead Man Walking), 7 p.m. today, West Chester Branch Library, 7900 Cox Road. Free. 241-2742.

Writers Project: The Cincinnati Writers Project reads poetry, fiction and nonfiction at its Read-Aloud event, 7 p.m. today, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Rookwood Pavilion, Norwood. 396-8960.

Staying in

TV picks: Tuesdays at 9 p.m. again proves to be the most competitive hour on TV with the CIA “mole” revealed on 24 (Channels 19, 45); Frasier posing as Roz's (Peri Gilpin) boyfriend (Channels 5, 22); and the government closing in on the Roswell aliens in the series finale (Channel 25).

        • Critic John Kiesewetter also says Buffy The Vampire Slayer mourns the death of a friend (8 p.m., Channel 25).

What's in stores today

Annual report: Whew, talk about your blistering sarcasm. What we have here is the Enrob Annual Report 2001 (ReganBooks; $10.95), the confidential first draft of an annual report from a company that sounds mighty close to Enron. Written by Charles Platt and Erico Narita, it's typical corporate hyperbole, but with a zillion snide remarks penciled in. Really snide. And there's mighty bizarre artwork and employee photos, too. Preview it at www.enrobreport.com.

Planning Ahead

24 hours out: Trinity Episcopal Church Midday Musical Menu features a concert version of Gian Carlo Menotti's one-act comic opera The Telephone, 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, 326 Madison Ave., Covington. Free (optional lunch $5 beginning 11:30 a.m.). (859) 431-1786.

48 hours out: The Drama Studio Series at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music features Diana Son's acclaimed lesbian drama Stop Kiss, 8 p.m. Thursday-Friday, 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Studio Theater, UC. Free. 556-4183.

72 hours 'til Friday: Comedian and actor Wayne Brady brings a group of funny friends for a show at the Taft Theatre, 8 p.m., Fifth and Sycamore streets, downtown. $35.50-$40.50. 562-4949.
