WEST CHESTER TWP The community television station on Beckett Road has completed a two-year build-out project that will be showcased today in an open house.
The additions at West Chester Community Television mean viewers see more shows and events occurring in their community, said Tim Jester, West Chester Community Television's executive director.
The open house will be from 4-7 p.m. at the station at 8878 Beckett Road.
We will produce between 300 to 350 shows this year, Mr. Jester said. The on-location production has increased and the quality is better. We are able to offer more to our viewers.
At least 300 viewers tune in at any given time, to two channels that show school activities such as band concerts and sports events and two other channels for government meetings and community goings-on. That estimate is a few years old, however, and Mr. Jester believes with the area's tremendous growth, it is much higher now.
I can always tell when there is an issue of concern with the Lakota School Board, West Chester Township trustees or zoning commission, because people call me and ask what time those shows are on, Mr. Jester said.
Now they can see more coverage of both Lakota East and Westhigh school events, Mr. Jester said.
The television station went on air in 1995 from a studio on Cincinnati-Dayton Road behind the Lakota Plaza with one staff person, lights, a curtain and a truck. That year, 60 shows were televised.
In May 2000, the station moved into the one-story building at 8878 Beckett Road. Only office space was in place there, so the expansion project was initiated in three phases. The last phase, recently completed, saw the installation of a control room to fully use production of shows in the studio.
