Today's Company: Esterkamp Automotive
Car Talk: This full-service Covedale shop was started by Bud and Helen Esterkamp in 1942. Sixty years later, Mrs. Esterkamp still does the books, and son A.J. Esterkamp heads the repair operations.
No. 2: The company's motto, The second best little garage in town, originated with its founder. When told by his son that he was the best, Mr. Esterkamp said No, son, everyone else keeps claiming to be the best. The guy in second place is trying harder. There's only one guy that claims to be in second place, and that's me.
One-Stop Shop: Esterkamp provides services ranging from replacing bulbs and fuses to rebuilding engines. It prides itself on an old-fashioned approach that meets customer requests for transportation, car washes and cleaning, pickup and delivery.
Checkered Past: The shop maintains connections to the racing industry and works on vintage vehicles, hot rods and race cars.
