The driver of the 1999 Monte Carlo, Amy Taulbee, 23, of Middletown, was in fair condition at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton on Thursday afternoon. Firefighters had to cut the driver's door and roof off to reach her and her three children.
Sara Taulbee, 4, and Nathan Taulbee, 5, were in fair condition at Childrens Medical Center in Dayton. Madison Taulbee, 3, and the bus driver, Kim Wells, 37, of Madison Township were treated at Middletown Regional Hospital and released.
Butler County sheriff's officials said the car was traveling east on Ohio 122 when it went left of center and struck the westbound bus.
The three Taulbee children were riding in the back seat of the Monte Carlo, said Capt. Michael Grimes of the Butler County Sheriff's office.
The kids were buckled in, Capt. Grimes said. We don't believe the driver had a seat belt on. The car had dual air bags, which did function.
Ms. Wells has been a bus driver for the district for 12 years and has never had an accident that was her fault, school district officials said.
