Dorothy Berry Hudson and her husband, Curlen, a tailor, founded Hudson Dry Cleaners almost 60 years ago.
Working with their two young daughters, they built it into a thriving business that became popular with Bengals and Reds players.
Some of them hired Mr. Hudson to make their suits when they were in town.
Today, Hudson Dry Cleaners is still a family run business.
Mrs. Hudson died Saturday of congestive heart failure at Good Samaritan Hospital. The Evanston resident was 86.
The Hudsons opened their dry cleaning and tailoring business on Baymiller Street in the West End in 1946.
In 1961, they relocated to Elm Street, where the store is today. Mrs. Hudson continued to run the business, with the help of her daughters, after her husband's death in 1977.
When she wasn't working, Mrs. Hudson spent her time serving her church and her family. A Christian woman with a bubbly personality, she was also full of wisdom, said her daughter Duane Morgan of Evanston. If there was anything she could do, she was right there.
Mrs. Hudson was an active member of Second Trinity Baptist Church in Walnut Hills, where she was a deaconess, on the board of trustees and a member of several auxiliaries.
She was also a member of the Findlay Market Association.
In addition to her daughter Duane, survivors include: her other daughter, Dorothy Cookie Phipps of College Hill; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Second Trinity Baptist Church, 911 Nassau St. in Walnut Hills. The funeral follows at 7 p.m. Interment is at Union Baptist Cemetery in Covedale.
Memorials: American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati 45219.
