SPORTS NEWS FOR FRIDAY, MAY 17, 2002
Tickets for Cinergy finale on sale Saturday
Opening Day sold out in just 26 minutes. Reds chief operating officer John Allen doesn't know if tickets to the team's final game at Cinergy Field will go quite that fast, but he expects it to be close.

Reds 2, Brewers 1
MILWAUKEE — Todd Walker, the guy with the game-winning hit for the Reds, rated Thursday's come-from-behind, 2-1, 11-inning victory over the Milwaukee Brewers No.1.

Bengals cross fingers, bet on Brewer
Sean Brewer came into the NFL under the cloud of a scouting report that said he had poor training and eating habits and a “gangsta” mentality. A year later, the first knock has given way to a second one — that he is prone to injury.

REDS
Less pressure, more winning helps Reitsma
MILWAUKEE — Sean Casey summed it up perfectly: “Chris Reitsma is coming on like the ace of the staff. He kept us in the game today. With the way Ben Sheets was throwing, that was huge.”

Reds Notebook: It's Miller time
MILWAUKEE — Give Corky Miller a chance and you get a No.1 catcher. Miller, who started the year in the minors, is catching three of the Reds' five starters.

Brewers manager admires Boone's play
MILWAUKEE — Never mind Todd Walker's decisive 11th-inning single. A play in the eighth inning epitomized the difference between Cincinnati and Milwaukee.

Buddy Bell back with Indians
CLEVELAND — Buddy Bell, fired earlier this season as manager of the Colorado Rockies, was hired today as a special minor league consultant by the Cleveland Indians, where he started his playing career.

LATE BASEBALL
Diamondbacks 4, Phillies 2
PHOENIX — Randy Johnson gave up a home run to Jimmy Rollins on the game's first pitch, then turned up the heat to earn his seventh victory.

Dodgers 4, Expos 3
Marquis Grissom atoned for a critical error with a game-tying RBI double in the eighth, and pinch-hitter Chad Kreuter singled home the go-ahead run two batters later.

Mets 3, Padres 1
SAN DIEGO — Besides pitching six strong innings, Al Leiter drove in the go-ahead run with a fourth-inning single.

BENGALS

Record year for track stars
Cincinnati track athletes have vaporized several city records and threatened many more this spring, as longtime standards fall almost weekly.

High School Track Notebook
Sibling rivalries often cause major problems for coaches. But at Loveland, 25-year girls track coach Deb Pomeroy has turned a potential negative into a positive with the Foster sisters, Kasi and Shannon, emerging as two of the team leaders.

High School Softball Notebook
Whether there's a potential play at third base, a possibility of a bunt or a much-needed burst of encouragement, all McAuley ears are tuned to center fielder Amy Sunderman for guidance.

New Harrison gym may be Tristate's largest
The new, state-of-the art William Henry Harrison High School Activity Center includes a gymnasium with 18,000 square feet of wood floor, believed to be the largest high school gym in the Tristate.
