Choir exchange celebrates song
If you want to hear new sounds, go to church Sept. 22.
That's when a group of Butler County churches will exchange choirs among denominations to celebrate National Religious Music Week.
One of the goals is to heighten awareness among all congregations of the importance of music in the worship service, said the Rev. Gene Leiter, pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middletown. Another is to honor those musicians in our midst who work so hard all year round to provide our church services with the uplifting and inspiring voice of song.
National Religious Music Week was founded in Southwest Ohio seven years ago to support music programs and musicians in churches during the last full week of September.
Churches may submit the names of their choir directors to the Religious Week committee, which will pair each church with another congregation.
Rick Davis, the southern coordinator and a choir member at Lindenwald Baptist Church in Fairfield, said he wants to promote cooperation and understanding among various churches and denominations.
For more information, contact the Rev. Leiter at 423-1181. Or write to National Religious Music Week Alliance, 201 Dayton St., Hamilton, OH 45013.
