GREEN TOWNSHIP A larger, more comfortable and better equipped Fire Station No. 107 will be rededicated here Sunday.
The station recently underwent an $825,000 renovation, said Tom Kotte, assistant chief of operations for the Green Township Fire Department. Officials will rededicate the station in the memory of George Zorick III, a volunteer firefighter and victim of the 1977 Beverly Hills Supper Club fire. The station also is dedicated to the memory of the other 164 victims of that disaster.
The ceremony, which will begin at 1 p.m., will feature state Rep. William Seitz, as well as members of the Zorick family. The public is invited.
Mr. Zorick was a volunteer member of the Mack Volunteer Fire Department, which later became the Green Township Fire Department.
He was a captain who had risen up the ranks and was well respected, said Lt. Michael Nie, spokesman for the department.
Fire Station No. 107 serves about a quarter of the growing township in western Hamilton County, and recently renovated its facilities, tearing down a temporary mobile home that served as housing facilities since 1985.
In its place now stands a station complete with a drive-through garage, sleeping facilities for seven, a full kitchen, bathrooms and a small office.
Although the station currently only uses a three-man crew, Lt. Nie said it was built with expansion in mind.
Our entire station is growing, he said. Lt. Nie has been tracking the number of runs from Station No. 107, and said it's increased 70 percent over the last 12 years.
The renovation was paid for by a tax fund earmarked by the state for infrastructure improvements, Lt. Nie said.
