Preservation month: Preserving the Spirit of Place will be the theme of this year's open house and ice cream social 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Dinsmore Homestead in Burlington. Quilt museum: The largest quilt museum in the world, the Museum of the American Quilter's Society in Paducah, Ky., is open seven days a week during the summer season with more than 150 new and antique quilts and a museum shop with crafts, books and gifts. Amish quilts: Palettes, Pieces and Patterns: A Comparison of Indiana and Ohio Amish Quilts, opens Thursday and runs through July 7 with 33 quilts at the Indiana State Museum in White River State Park, downtown Indianapolis. Half of the quilts will be from the museum's collection and half from Tom and Marsh French of Ohio. The quilt often is used to define one Amish community from another with color, placement and pattern. Family Discovery Day, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 15, will have storytelling, exhibit tours and a chance to create a quilt square for the museum quilt.
