United Way ad effort wins award

After the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington in September, the United Way here watched as millions of dollars that might have gone to its pledge campaign flowed to urgent needs in those cities.
In need of a marketing campaign to keep funds flowing to local charities, the United Way appealed to the Advertising Club of Cincinnati. And in stepped Maureen Odioso Godshall, president and co-founder of ad agency Loren/Allan/Odioso.
The firm donated creative work for a television campaign that started with a shot of the Statue of Liberty, then faded to Fountain Square. The message: Keep some of those dollars working at home.
For efforts such as that, Ms. Odioso has received the Ad Club's Ad Person of the Year award. Club president Bill Mann said the donated campaign essentially saved the United Way's local fund-raising effort.
Ms. Godshall's firm is one of several in Greater Cincinnati that have weathered tough economic times by concentrating on core markets and cross-selling its services.
This month, it has added two new clients in Columbus, Lifestyle Communities and Nationwide Energy Partners.
