Man drives van into Fairmount house

A South Fairmount couple were sleeping peacefully in their second-floor bedroom when a van crashed into their home early Saturday, tearing a large concrete slab from their porch and leaving the driver in critical condition.
The porch was knocked off of its foundation and concrete blocks in the basement were destroyed after a van driven by Antonio Daniels, 30, of Mount Healthy crashed into the home of George and Betty Stoll.
I tell you, the whole house shook. They must have really been traveling, said Mr. Stoll, 86.
The retired Cincinnati firefighter and his wife, Betty, 83, bought their home in the 2000 block of Queen City Avenue more than 50 years ago.
Mr. Stoll said reckless drivers have crashed into at least two of his neighbors' homes within the past year.
Mr. Daniels had been drinking, said Sgt. John Wainscott of the Cincinnati Police Department's traffic unit.
According to Sgt. Wainscott, Mr. Daniels lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line and veered off the road, crashing into the Stoll residence shortly after midnight.
Upon impact, Wallace Evans, 27, a passenger in the van, was ejected from the vehicle while Mr. Daniels was pinned inside. Cincinnati firefighters extricated Mr. Daniels before he and Mr. Evans were transported to University Hospital.
Mr. Evans was treated and released while Mr. Daniels is in critical condition.
No charges have been filed and an investigation continues.
