'Cappies' program plans Tristate gala

The Critics and Awards Program, or Cappies, will have its first Tristate awards gala this Wednesday to recognize excellence in local high school theater.
The first Midwest chapter of the program was formed this year. Ten high schools that participated were Anderson, Beechwood, Cincinnati Christian, Mason, McAuley, Mother of Mercy, Princeton, St. Xavier, Taylor, and Walnut Hills.
The awards, to be given out at 7 p.m. Wednesday at McAuley High School, cover 35 categories of perform ance, technical work, and theater criticism.
A multi-school regional teen cast of singers, dancers and performers will offer entertainment, including numbers and scenes from the nominated musicals.
The Cappies program is now in its third year nationally. The Cincinnati chapter is the newest program.
