Utility problems delay I-75 work
By Walt Schaefer wschaefer@enquirer.com

QUESTION: Why is work at Seymour Avenue and Interstate 75 taking so long? This project started at least a year ago. The backups on Seymour, Paddock Road and Vine Street are horrible. Paddock and Seymour have been under construction while an overpass is being installed, yet those jobs are making little or no progress. Who is responsible for the delays? Are there penalties for the contractors? - Doug Gerstle, Wyoming
ANSWER: This project is a year behind schedule because of utility delays, said Kim Patton, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). Several utility companies have not com pleted work on time. That has put ODOT's contractor behind schedule. ODOT has no legal recourse against the utilities.
Q: Approaching the east end of the Ronald Reagan Highway, the state has placed new, small signs saying the right lane must exit south onto Montgomery Road and the left lane must exit to the north. However, the lane lines on the pavement indicate the right lane may go straight. As a result, many vehicles in the right lane are not exiting onto southbound Montgomery and are cutting in and forcing left lane traffic away to the left. Can this be fixed? - Jim Hodde, Sycamore Township
A: Mrs. Patton said the problem has been corrected. Signs and pavement markings now match.
Q: When entering onto westbound Glendale-Milford Road after exiting from northbound I-75, there is a yield sign near the end of the exit ramp just before Glendale-Milford. The exit lane there actually becomes a new lane and does not merge into existing lanes. Shouldn't there be a diamond-shaped yellow sign that indicates a continuous lane?
- Barry Adamson, Forest Park
A: Mrs. Patton said traf fic engineers reviewed this location and determined that the existing signage meets the road conditions. As motorists exit from northbound I-75, they need to merge with the traffic on the General Electric Plant Connector to get to the Glendale-Milford exit, she said.
