Makeover planned for Miami Township

MIAMI TWP. The township's board of trustees Tuesday night unanimously adopted a land use plan for Ohio 28 that would be a complete makeover of the township's main commercial corridor, if fully implemented.
Trustees were enthusiastic about the plan. Trustee Joseph Uecker said he has been asked on several occasions about seeing the actual plans.
I had no idea that it's made such an impact in the planning community, said Mr. Uecker. It's something brand new in this area. It's an exciting and innovative design.
The plan involves revitalizing about 1.5 miles of Ohio 28 in this Clermont County township, from the Interstate 275 interchange on the western side of Ohio 28 to Wolfpen-Pleasant Hill Road on the east.
Envisioned is a widening of the street, introducing a boulevard look, with angled parking, sidewalks and locating business fronts close to the street, while relocating parking behind businesses.
Larry Fronk, community development director, said the next step is having Clermont County engineer's office take the lead in approaching the Ohio Department of Transportation about relinquishing Ohio 28 to either the county or the township before doing the actual road work.
There is no cost estimate for the project, which will likely involve more than one developer and could take as long as two decades to complete.
