Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon has been selected as the site of the 2005 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships, the United States Golf Association announced Friday.

The championship will be conducted from July 11-16.

Designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 1979, Shaker Run will host its first USGA Championship. Ohio has welcomed 32 previous USGA championships, including five Amateur Public Links championships, the latest being 1987 at Glenview Golf Course.

A 27-hole complex, Shaker Run is the home of the Arthur Hills-designed Woodlands and Lakeside nines that were augmented by the Meadows nine in 1999, which was routed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry.

Shaker Run is surrounded by flat farmland and cornfields and features rolling hills and elevation changes not normally expected in Ohio terrain.

“We are honored to provide the No. 1 public golf facility in Ohio to the USGA for the No. 1 amateur championship for public links players,” owner David Brooks said.

Prior to 2005, the U.S. Amateur Public Links will be played at The Orchards Club in Washington, Mich., July 15-20, 2002; at Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in Galloway, N.J., July 14-19, 2003; and at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, Minn., July 12-17, 2004.
