Accident kills boater
Search team recovers body of fisherman
Associated Press
SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. A search team recovered the body of a Richmond man who fell from his fishing boat when it apparently struck an object early Saturday in Barren River Lake.
The body of Allen B. Reynolds, 44, was found by members of the Allen County/Scottsville dive team Saturday afternoon, said Brett Zalla of the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Mr. Reynolds and his wife were returning to dock when they were thrown from their fishing craft after it hit an object in the lake about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Mr. Zalla said. The lake is about 35-feet deep where they were thrown about 100 yards from shore, Mr. Zalla said.
Authorities did not know what object the boat struck, he said.
Mr. Reynolds' wife was rescued by a fisherman who heard her screaming, Mr. Zalla said. They searched for Mr. Reynolds but could not find him, he said.
The fishing boat was properly lighted, and alcohol was not a factor, he said. Mr. Reynolds and his wife were not wearing life jackets, he said.
Reynolds' body was taken to Louisville for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, Zalla said.
Meanwhile, water-safety authorities were out in force during the Memorial Day weekend. All 145 wildlife/boating officers with the Department of Fish and Wildlife were to be on the water.
