COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Lottery's Super Lotto Plus game is selling more tickets in the state than the recently introduced multistate Mega Millions game, which has much bigger jackpots.

        In the first 10 days of sales for Mega Millions, which had its first drawing May 17, the Ohio Lottery sold more than $4.2 million in tickets for three drawings of the game. The Super Lotto Plus game has been averaging about $3.7 million a week in sales this month for its twice-weekly drawings.

        Ohio Lottery officials feel that as jackpots grow and more people learn about the game, Mega Millions will catch on.

        “It's early and the jackpot's relatively small” for the Mega Millions game, which also has twice-weekly drawings, said lottery spokeswoman Mardele Cohen. She also said lottery officials feel sales will pick up during the holiday weekend and as the weather improves.

        The minimum jackpot for Mega Millions is $10 million, but future jackpots are expected to average $80 million and reach as high as $500 million.

        Friday's Mega Millions game had a $12 million jackpot and one winner. The winning ticket was sold in Chicago.

        One of four winners of $175,000 second prizes was from Ohio. The state also had one winner of a $5,000 prize. Altogether, 247,837 people won at least $2 in the Mega Millions game Friday, and 26,913 of the winners were from Ohio.
