NKU's Walton named All-American

Northern Kentucky University senior first baseman Steve Walton has been named second-team NCAA Division II All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Walton, from Rising Sun, Ind., set an NKU single-season record with 72 runs batted in this spring. He also batted .347 with nine home runs and 18 doubles.

Walton finished with a .559 slugging percentage and scored 39 runs this season as NKU won its first-ever Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship.

The Norse were 37-24 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time since 1990.
