We asked three wine store owners and managers to recommend wines to sip with berries and other fresh fruits of the season. Here are their choices with comments:
Dave Anderson, Wyoming Wines, Wyoming
Batasiola Moscato D'Asti ($9.99): Sweet, but balanced and refreshing.
Domaine St. Michele Blanc de Noir ($12.99): Sparkling rose that matches berries and cherries.
Chateau Moncontour Vouvray Moelleux 1995 ($19.99): Dessert-style chenin blanc marries well with peaches, melons and apricots.
Marty Piazza, Piazza-Discepoli, Madeira
Domaine de Durban, Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise 2000 ($19.99): Pour over fresh berries.
La Spinetta Moscato d'Asti2000 ($13.99): ""Low in alcohol, slightly sparkling.
Giacomo Mori Chianti 2000 ($13.99): Pouring Chianti over fresh strawberries and blackberries is an old Italian tradition.
Kathee Vankirk, The Wine Merchant, Oakley
Zardetto Prosecco ($14.99). Not too dry, but not as sweet as Asti Spumante.
St. Supery Muscato ($15.99). Medium sweet/medium heavy.
Merryvale Antigua ($32.99). Heavier, with hints of orange.
