FALMOUTH Rescuers recovered a body Wednesday afternoon at the Meldahl Dam believed to be that of fisherman Danny Eaton, who has been missing since May 13 when the small boat he was in capsized in rough waters.
The preliminary investigation indicates the body recovered is that of Danny Eaton, said Washington Township Emergency Services Chief Greg Thomas. We found a wallet in the back pocket with his ID.
The 27-year-old Foster man was fishing with two friends near the Meldahl Dam when the accident occurred near the Ohio side of the Ohio River, about 40 miles from downtown Cincinnati, near Neville, Ohio.
The body of the second passenger, 24-year-old Robert Wood of Falmouth, was recovered May 23. A third man on the boat, 25-year-old Jeremy King of Colmansville, was rescued by a towboat.
Mr. Wood was one of four people running for Pendleton County jailer. His death came too close to Tuesday's elections to remove his name from the ballots, but county officials said Wednesday that state law prevented them from counting the number of votes cast for Mr. Wood.
The body found Wednesday was on the Maysville side of the dam, located between the Kentucky towns of Foster and Augusta in Bracken County. Pendleton Search and Rescue officials had removed the body from the river by 1:30 p.m.
Volunteers donated their boats and time to search the river for the last 16 days with the help of both Kentucky and Ohio agencies.
I never saw such a dedicated group of friends and family as Mr. Eaton's, said Bracken County Coroner John Parker. They have been out there every day helping in any way they could to locate his body.
Mr. Parker's office did not immediately make a positive identification on the body, but the coroner said all indications were that it was Mr. Eaton's.
Mr. Thomas said he sent rescuers out twice a day at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to search the locks, dam and riverbanks since the boat capsized.
Funeral arrangements for Mr. Eaton were pending Wednesday evening.
