Libraries lure readers with a world of ideas

Regional libraries are offering incentives and give-aways to keep adults and children reading over the summer.
At Hamilton County's libraries, readers can win Reds tickets or a globe. Kenton County readers can enter a raffle for prizes at stores. And Butler County readers will be rocking in special programs on the high-interest topics of geology, archeology and dinosaurs.
The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County's Summer Reading Club begins with a Read Around the World preview night today at the downtown library and at all 41 branches.
From June 1 to Aug. 15, the library will spotlight different nationalities from around the globe with cultural programs and reading-related activities. . The library and Sister Cities Association of Cincinnati and other multicultural organizations will sponsor programs featuring colorful dress, creative arts and crafts and lively music.
The 29th annual Summer Reading Club offers incentives too, including Reds tickets, books to keep, Crayola Interactive Learning Globes and gift certificates from local businesses and bookstores.

Kenton County residents are invited to sign up for their public library's Let Freedom Read summer reading program. Raffle tickets, coupons from merchants and prizes from local businesses will be given away.Booklogs may be either picked up at the nearest library or downloaded at the Kenton County Public Library Web site at www.kenton.lib.ky.us or call (859) 491-7610.
Lane Public Library in Hamilton's summer reading program, Reading Rocks, is a summer-long schedule of fun activities for children ages 12 and younger. The library prefers to keep the emphasis on the love of reading rather than incentives. Story times for young children, workshops and special programs all have a rock theme like geology, archeology and dinosaurs. The full schedule is on their website at www.lanepl.org or call 894-7156.
