Cintas building plant in N.C.

        Mason-based Cintas Corp., the nation's leading uniform company, is building a $7 million plant and hiring 60 additional workers in Durham, N.C.

        The 56,000-square-foot center in Durham's Triangle business center will handle the laundering and distribution of rental uniforms and will have about 140 employees. About 80 will be shifted from the company's Raleigh location.
       

Swiss orders engines from CFM

        Swiss, the airline based in Zurich, Switzerland, has placed a $300 million order with CFM International for engines to power 13 Airbus A340-300 jets. Swiss, formerly Swissair, is to take delivery of the jets between June 2003 and August 2004, officials said Friday.

        CFM International makes the CFM56-5C4 engines that power the Airbus jets. CFM, based in Evendale, is a joint venture of General Electric Co. and the French manufacturer Snecma Moteurs.
       

Goodyear builds a new blimp

        Akron, Ohio-based Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., North America's largest tire maker, is building a blimp that will be called the “Spirit of America.”

        The blimp will replace the “Eagle,” which has been operating since 1992, the company said in a statement.

        The “Spirit of America” is being built at Goodyear's Suffield, Ohio, airship hangar. It will be based in Akron. Besides the “Eagle,” the company has two other GZ-20A airships in its fleet: the “Stars and Stripes” and the “Spirit of Goodyear.”
