St. X grad Sollmann honored

Notre Dame second baseman Steve Sollmann (St. Xavier) was named national player of the week by Collegiate Baseball Magazine.
Sollmann was 13-for-16 with eight runs and 10 RBI during that period, and raised his season batting average from .314 to .356 for the Irish, who are ranked No. 11 nationally.
The sophomore was 6-for-7 with seven RBI and six runs Saturday in a 25-1 victory over South Alabama in an NCAA regional. His six runs were an NCAA Tournament single-game record and his six hits tied a single-game mark. He tied Notre Dame single-game records for hits, RBI and runs.
