Long-awaited development now going up in Carthage
The Cincinnati Enquirer
A developer started construction Tuesday on Carthage's first new home development in four decades.
Potterhill Homes, an upstart firm specializing in building manufactured homes in urban areas, will finish 15 bungalow and farmhouse homes by late October for a manufactured home show. Homes will be priced from $100,000 to $160,000.
The first phase of construction will include 32 homes followed by another 20 homes to be built by September 2004.
The groundbreaking ceremony kicks off the last stretch of a five -year project initiated by the Carthage community. The city has spent more than $8 million to acquire the property and relocate manufacturers out of the residential neighborhood.
In 2000, Cincinnati City Council killed a plan to spend more money to develop conventional homes, so the city endorsed Potterhill's manufactured home plan instead.
