Obituary: Frances 'Si' Pitts, 82, supervisor for county
Madisonville woman also was case worker, substitute teacher

DEER PARK Frances Eloise Walton Pitts, a retired supervisor for the Hamilton County Board of Mental Retardation, died May 30 of complications of pneumonia at Deer Park Nursing Home.
The longtime Madisonville resident was 82.
Known as ""Si,'' a nickname bestowed on her by a younger sister who couldn't manage Frances, Mrs. Pitts was compassionate and friendly.
Her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Pitts of Madisonville, recalled that she used to buy extra gifts at Christmas in case there were guests who didn't get one. Anything that you wanted, she would give you.
She was also a party person, who had a sense of humor and was always laughing, her daughter-in-law said.
Her son, Thomas Walton Pitts of Madisonville, agreed, saying, She was generous to a fault and always full of laughter.
Mrs. Pitts, who held a master's degree in social work from Atlanta University, was a supervisor of home education for the Board of Mental Retardation, according to her son.
She also worked as a caseworker for the Hamilton County Welfare Department and University Hospital and as a substitute teacher for Cincinnati Public Schools.
She retired in 1988.
Born in Cincinnati in 1919, Mrs. Pitts graduated from Walnut Hills High School in 1937 and West Virginia State College in Charleston in 1942.
She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, where she was active with the Altar Guild and the St. Cecelia Guild.
Thomas Harold Pitts, her husband of 35 years, died in 1987.
In addition to her son, survivors include: two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 11 a.m. today, followed by a memorial service at noon at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1809 Rutland Ave., Evanston.
The remains have been cremated and will be interred privately at Laurel Cemetery in Madisonville.
