Hospital delays elective surgeries
The Cincinnati Enquirer
University Hospital on Wednesday asked surgeons to postpone all elective cases that required overnight recovery.
It's the latest wrinkle in the continuing issue of Tristate hospitals diverting record numbers of patients.
The move affected 11 cases that had to be rescheduled because there were no rooms for patients after their operations, said spokeswoman Pat Samson.
The rescheduling was necessary because seven cases from Tuesday night were still waiting in the emergency department for rooms to open up elsewhere in the hospital.
The rescheduling was caused by a lack of available beds, not a lack of nursing staff, Ms. Samson said.
