Oxford honors Phillip Shriver
This is Phillip R. Shriver Week in Oxford, and it's long overdue.
City council proclaimed it to honor the president emeritus of Miami University and a valued citizen and neighbor.
His accomplishments could fill a book, but lately he has served with the Black Covered Bridge committee, the Talawanda Together Initiative and the Future of Oxford Committee.
He serves on many boards, from the Darrtown Stock Protection Association to the Oxford Museum Association.
In his proclamation, Mayor Kenneth Bogard said: Phillip R. Shriver has, for many years, given of his personal time and energy to serve the Oxford community and should be recognized for his many contributions, timeless dedication and the valuable service he has shown.
People know Dr. Shriver in various roles: a down-to-earth historian and educator who taught until a few years ago, and a veteran who served on the destroyer USS Murray in the Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns during World War II.
Congratulations on your week, Dr. Shriver.
