Ask Bill Grannen of Anderson Township why he competes in tennis tournaments, and he'll give you two reasons: Jason and Derek.
I've had so much fun playing with my two sons, Bill Grannen, 43, said. The competition it's just brought us closer together. We have a good time doing it.
Bill will play with Jason today through Sunday in the C.James Meakin Cincinnati Father/Son Championship at the Airport Playfield Tennis Facility.
Today's matches start at 6 p.m. Sixteen teams are registered. On the line is a berth to the national tournament.
Also at the venue Thursday through Saturday is the second annual Cincinnati Recreation Commission Mother/Daughter Championship. Six teams are registered.
The Grannen duo of Bill and Jason won the local father-son tournament in 1999 and often play in national father-son events.
They've played in six previous Cincinnati father-son tournaments.
Jason said in April they placed sixth overall in a national father-son indoor tournament in New Jersey.
I don't live at home and don't always have time to do things with my parents, Jason, 24, said. This is nice, because it's the one thing I can do with my dad.
