Freedom Center breaks ground Monday
First Lady Laura Bush and boxing legend Muhammad Ali will participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Monday on the riverfront.
Mrs. Bush is scheduled to speak at 8:30 p.m. Ali will light Freedom's Flame at 9 p.m.

What: Lighting Freedom's Flame, the groundbreaking ceremony for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.
When: 7-10 p.m. Monday.
Where: Foot of the Roebling Suspension Bridge, near Cinergy Field, downtown.
Program: 7-8:30 p.m. Community festival with food vendors, African dancers, storytellers, musical performances, period re-enactors, face painting, a model of the building and a chance to tell your family's Underground Railroad story on video.
8:30-9 p.m. Formal program with speeches by Gov. Bob Taft, Mayor Charlie Luken and other dignitaries
9-10 p.m. A performance by a 700-member choir that will cross the Ohio River on the Roebling Bridge in a candlelight procession. Following the path to freedom, a barge with 100 more participants carrying candles will float into port. All attendees will receive battery operated candles for participation in the ceremony.
10 p.m. Fireworks.
Pre-event reception: Starting at 5 p.m. at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington. Expected to attend are Heather French Henry; Harry Belafonte, Jack Kemp and William H Gray III, president and CEO of the United Negro College Fund.
