Maysville rep named Miss Kentucky

LEXINGTON Miss Maysville Area Mary Catherine Correll was crowned Miss Kentucky on Saturday night.
Ms. Correll, 21, will represent the state in the Miss America Pageant in October. She won a $12,000 scholarship with the crown.
She is a pre-dental student studying biology at the University of Kentucky.
The daughter of Richard and June Correll of Somerset sang Time to Say Goodbye and chose the National Marrow Donor Program as her platform.
The first runner-up was Miss Louisville Bryn Lawton Chapman, who received a $5,000 scholarship. The second runner-up was Miss Jeffersontown Maria Maldonado. She received a $3,500 scholarship.
Third runner-up was Bethany Moore, Miss Monticello, who won a $2,500 scholarship, and Miss Metropolitan Heather Johnson was the fourth runner-up. Ms. Johnson won a $2,000 scholarship.
Miss Derby City Amber Renee Jones won the Miss America Community Service Award, and Miss Richmond Area Shonelle Renee McGill won the Miss Kentucky Academic Scholarship, worth $1,000.
Non-finalist talent awards went to Ms. Jones, Ms. McGill and Miss Paducah Area Amy Lee Parker.
Miss America 2000 Heather French Henry and Marvin Bartlett of WKYT-TV co-hosted the ceremonies, held in Haggin Auditorium at Transylvania University.
