Jaguars sign Marco Coleman
The Associated Press
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free-agent defensive end Marco Coleman to a three-year contract Thursday.
Coleman, a 10-year veteran, played for the Washington Redskins last season. He signed an incentive-filled contract that could be worth as much as $4.5 million.
The signing continues an active offseason for Jacksonville, which has used its newly created salary cap room to sign several veteran free agents to low-priced contracts.
Other veterans who have signed are offensive linemen Raleigh Roundtree, Kevin Long, Daryl Terrell and Chris Naeole, and receivers Patrick Johnson and Bobby Shaw.
The Carolina Panthers agreed to terms on a three-year, $1.425 million contract Thursday with third-round draft pick Will Witherspoon.
Witherspoon will earn the league minimum base salaries of $225,000 in 2000, $300,000 in 2003 and $380,000 in 2004, along with a $520,000 signing bonus, according to his agent Hadley Engelhard.
