Channel 9 will show Cup final live
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Hundreds of irate callers got the live World Cup final they wanted this morning.
WCPO-TV (Ch. 9) general manager Bill Fee made the decision to air the match between Germany and Brazil live at 6:30 a.m. after callers filled up two voice-mail boxes Saturday afternoon. The callers were complaining about the station's original plan to show local programming in the morning and show the soccer match on replay at 12:30 p.m. The voice-mail boxes held up to 200 messages each.
The hundreds of people that called changed our programming department's minds, sports anchor Kathrine Nero said.
She said Fee made the decision to show the match live, in addition to the 12:30 replay, and it was announced on WCPO Saturday during a replay of the third-place match between Turkey and South Korea.
I answered 50 to 60 calls, Nero said, and I just got here at 3 (p.m.).
