Kettering course gets 2005 Senior Open
The Cincinnati Enquirer
NCR Country Club in Kettering has been selected as the site of the 2005 U.S. Senior Open.
The championship, for golfers 50 and older, will be July 28-31. Plainfield (N.J.) Country Club initially was chosen to host the 2005 Senior Open, but scheduling considerations have necessitated the selection of an alternate site.
NCR, which had been in discussions with the USGA to host the 2007 championship, was able to commit to host the 2005 Senior Open instead.
We are very excited to bring this national championship to NCR Country Club, which has a rich history of hosting prestigious golf events, including two USGA national championships, said Fred Ridley, chairman of the USGA Championship Committee.
Designed by Dick Wilson and opened in 1954, the South course at NCR has been the site of the 1986 U.S. Women's Open, won by Jane Geddes; the 1998 U.S. Mid-Amateur, won by John Spider Miller; and the 1969 PGA Championship, won by Raymond Floyd.
Including the two previous USGA Championships at NCR Country Club, the state of Ohio has hosted 32 USGA championships.
The Senior Open is making its third visit to Ohio, with previous championships at Scioto Country Club in Columbus in 1986 and at Canterbury Golf Club in Cleveland in 1996.
Other future sites are The Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, June 26-29, 2003; Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, July 29-August 1, 2004; and Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore., August 3-6, 2006.
