Man knocked out of canoe drowns
The Cincinnati Enquirer
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio A 77-year-old man who fell from his canoe into a river when he was struck by a tree limb drowned after his life jacket came off, sheriff's deputies said.
Victor Cordell of Yellow Springs clung to the low-hanging branch after the canoe overturned in the Mad River on Saturday, but he lost his grip, the Clark County Sheriff's office said.
Mr. Cordell could not swim, and his life jacket was not fastened properly, Sgt. Phil Ehrle Jr. said.
The river took the man about a half-mile downstream. A bystander's attempts to revive the man on the shore failed.
