The economy is starting to shake loose. Something is going to happen, said Mark Schumacher of Schumacher Dugan Construction Inc. which owns the parcel. The road, Centre Point Drive, is a quarter-mile extension of the existing drive that serves the Marriott Hotel and Centre Point office complex at Muhlhauser Road and Union Centre Boulevard.
Developers of the mall, called The Avenue of West Chester, are wooing retailers, restaurants and cinema operators. Cousins Properties Inc., of Atlanta hopes to announce tenants and break ground soon.
The 215,000-square-foot upscale mall will emerge on 26 acres at Union Centre and Muhlhauser. A 70,000-square-foot building also could be built for a theater or department store, plans show.
Two other developers have proposed malls with movie theaters in West Chester along the interstate. Meanwhile, an upscale steakhouse with a piano bar and dining rooms with fireplaces called Jag's Steak & Seafood recently began construction along West Chester Road. Pusser's, a Caribbean-style restaurant based in the British Virgin Islands, will make its Tristate debut at Muhlhauser and the extended Centre Point Drive.
A third hotel, Staybridge Suites, also recently began construction. It will have 117 rooms and rise off Lakota Drive West.
