Cincinnati Blooms

Pick of the Pots

The Cincinnati Enquirer

        Title: Potcasso

        Pot's location: Fountain Square

Artist: Joe Carr of Price Hill, whose usual media are acrylic, charcoal, digital — “whatever makes a mark.”

Explanation: Inspired by Pablo Picasso, the pot was an interpreted study of the late artist's stylings. “The work contains a self-portrait and a portrait of my wife, Kym, and a few of our more eccentric neighbors in a garden setting reflecting the natural and applied beauty of Price Hill's Incline District.” Painting was completed in three sessions, totaling 28 hours.

Who planted it: Julie Weinel, horticulture manager for the Cincinnati Horticultural Society. She used million bells “Terra Cotta,” carex “Gold Fountains” and lantana. “It's a cheerful mix of yellow flowers and foliage — great selections for this fun pot.”

        Sponsor: Cincinnati Art Gallery.

Artist-decorated and professionally planted flower pots and planters, part of “Cincinnati Blooms,” will be in downtown Cincinnati, Newport and Covington through September. Information at Cincinnati.Com.
