Lowe's Saturday classes: Saturday classes for the month of July at Lowe's locations include: 10 a.m. installing fastlock laminate flooring; 11 a.m. hanging wallpaper and borders; 1 p.m. building an outdoor playhouse. Free. Information at your local store.

Garden Conservancy tours: Nine gardens will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sundayas part of the Garden Conservancy's National Open Day Program in 26 states. Summer plant help: Keeping summer plants in tip-top shape will be the subjects of this week's gardening session by White Oak Garden Center at 7 p.m. Monday at the Monfort Heights Branch Library. Free. Information: 385-3313 or 369-4472.
Student chairs: Student designs from the Industrial Design department of the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning will be on display Friday through Aug. 30 at the DAAP Galleries 3290, 314 W. Fourth St., downtown. (Opening reception 6-8 p.m. Friday.) Chair designs incorporating three of the five Japanese design elements (humor, craftsmanship, compactness, asymmetry and simplicity) will be included. The chairs had to be practical (able to be manufactured and shipped), cross-generational, easy to get in and out of, relate to an environment, weigh no more than 75 pounds, be ergonomically correct and be engineered properly. Free garden tours: The second leg of the Cincinnati Horticultural Society's Summer Garden Tour of seven gardens from West Chester Township to Mount Washington will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. next Saturday. Guides and hosts introduce guests to the design, plant material and history of each garden. Glass art: Contemporary Impressionism glassworks (vibrant landscapes on a three-dimensional canvas of glass inspired by the work of 19th-century impressionists) by Shawn Messenger of Toledo will be displayed at A Show of Hands in Kenwood Towne Centre through Aug. 18 during store hours.
Pond Expo: Water Gardening Made Simple will be presented by the Miami Valley Water Garden Society 8 a.m.-4 p.m. July 27 at Polen Farm Estates in Kettering, along with the fourth annual water garden tour 9 a.m.-9 p.m. July 28 of 13 sites in Dayton, Centerville, Bellbrook, Beavercreek, Fairborn, Yellow Springs and Tipp City.
